★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ THE GRAHAM EFFECT by Elle Kennedy

THE GRAHAM EFFECT by Elle Kennedy

Series: Campus Diaries, #1

Release Date: 31st October 2023

Gigi Graham has exactly three goals: qualify for the women’s national hockey team, win Olympic gold, and step out of her famous father’s shadow. So far, so good, except for two little things. Fine–a little thing and a big, grumpy thing. She needs to improve her game behind the net, and she needs help from Luke Ryder.

Ryder is six-foot five, built, opinionated, rude…and sexy as hell. But he’s still the enemy.

Briar’s new hockey co-captain has his reasons, though. The men’s team just merged with a rival program, leaving Ryder with an angry roster where everyone hates one another’s guts. To make matters worse, the summer coaching spot he’s angling for with the legendary Garrett Graham is out of reach after he makes the worst possible first impression on his hero. So, really, this compromise with Gigi is win-win. He helps her make the national team, she puts in a good word
with her dad.

The only potential snag? This bone-deep, body-numbing, mind-spinning chemistry they’re trying to ignore. It’s a dangerous game they’re playing, but the risks just might be worth it.

★4.5 STARS★

If you are looking for something to get your teeth into, might I recommend this latest offering from Elle Kennedy?

The Graham Effect is a labour of generational love, and readers like myself that have partaken in the Off Campus series will be wholly satiated with the Campus Diaries.

Admittedly I was slightly horrified at the notion of Briar gang having fully grown offspring but my misgivings were quickly assuaged as Elle has masterfully whipped up some tantalising characters. The banter was delicious as always, and I would be remiss to neglect the generous heap of humour served on a bed of steamy… well, steam.

There is something to be said about the new generation Elle Kennedy is fostering and The Graham Effect took full effect in welcoming the new generation into the fold.

EXPOSED by Kristen Callihan

Series: VIP, #4

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: 13th July 2021

Brenna

There are some people in life who know exactly how to push your buttons. For me, it’s Rye Peterson. We can’t spend more than ten minutes together before we’re at each other’s throats, which makes working together that much harder. Rye is the bassist for Kill John, the biggest rock band in the world, and I am his publicist. It doesn’t help that the man is gorgeous, funny, talented, and…never takes anything seriously. Avoidance is key.

But everything changes when he overhears something he shouldn’t: a confession made in a moment of weakness. Now the man I’ve tried so hard to ignore is offering me the greatest temptation of all—him.

Rye

Brenna James is the one. The one I can’t have. The one I can’t get out of my mind. Believe me, I’ve tried; the woman loathes me. I managed well enough—until I heard her say she’s as lonely as I am. That she needed to be touched, held, satisfied. And I could no longer deny the truth: I wanted to be the one to give her what she craved.

I convinced her that it would just be sex, mutual satisfaction with nothing deeper. But the moment I have her, she becomes my world. I’ve never given her a good reason to trust me before. Now, I’ve got to show Brenna that we’re so much better together than we ever were apart.

Things are going to get messy. But getting messy with Brenna is what I do best.

★4 STARS★

Brenna James and Rye Peterson are best known by their loved ones for pushing each other’s buttons. They’ve known one another for years and their lives are intertwined in both career and personal. As well as cousin to band member Killian, Brenna is the group’s PR manager extraordinaire. On paper her life is an enviable one, but there’s a niggling itch Brenna needs help scratching.

As bassist to one of the world’s most famous rock bands Rye should feel content with life. Rather he finds himself at a crossroads. He’s known for his carefree attitude but due to the seriousness of a situation he finds himself in, he finds himself looking for distraction where he shouldn’t.

Luck is in on Rye’s side when he overhears a conversation of Brenna’s, and much to Brenna’s horror he others her a solution the feels can bring them mutual satisfaction. The thin line between love and hate is not one neither of them wish to address, but they are both in agreement at the all consuming attraction that has circled them for years.

Conflict arises when fear and old insecurities rear their head to throw their alliance in jeopardy. It was a frustrating to see them give in to what they considered weakness but it was ultimately satisfying to see them confront it. Rye and Brenna are a passionate couple and along with that element, I enjoyed the playfulness of their relationship.

The VIP series is an wonderful one. The blend of humour and emotion makes each book throughly engaging, and the stories are made to be reread. I’m not ready for the series to come to an end yet but I eagerly await for the music to start again with Whip’s book.

ROOMMATE by Sarina Bowen

Genre: M/M Romance

Release Date: 12th January 2021

Wanted: One roommate to share a 3-bedroom house, split the rent, and ideally not be the guy I can’t stop thinking about.
I’m a man with too many secrets, so the last thing I need is a new roommate with a sexy smile and blue eyes that see right through me. Eight years ago, Roderick left town after high school. We’re not friends. I owe him nothing. But back then, I let one of my secrets slip, and he’s the only one who noticed.
Part of me knows I should run far, far away. But the other part wants him to come upstairs and spend the night. But if I let him in, I could lose everything.

Seeking: a room to rent in town. I’m tidy, have no pets, and I will feed you homemade bread.
I should probably add: Gay AF, and has no filter. It’s no wonder my new landlord is so wary of me.
A smarter man would ignore those hot glances from the broody lumberjack. He may want more from me than another fresh-baked pretzel. But if I push my luck, I’ll end up back on the street.
Too bad I’ve never been smart with my heart…

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ THE DARE BY ELLE KENNEDY

Genres: College Romance, Sports Romance

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | iBooks | Kobo | Nook | Google | [ad]

THE DARE by Elle Kennedy

Series: Briar U, #4

Genre: College/ Sports Romance

Release Date: 16th June 2020

College was supposed to be my chance to get over my ugly-duckling complex and spread my wings. Instead, I wound up in a sorority full of mean girls. I already have a hard time fitting in, so when my Kappa Chi sisters issue the challenge, I can’t say no.

The dare: seduce the hottest new hockey player in the junior class.

Conor Edwards is a regular at Greek Row parties…and in Greek Row sorority beds. He’s the one you fall for before you learn that guys like him don’t give girls like me a second glance. Except Mr. Popular throws me for a loop—rather than laughing in my face, he does me a solid by letting me take him upstairs to pretend we’re getting busy.

Even crazier, now he wants to keep pretending. Turns out Conor loves games, and he thinks it’s fun to pull the wool over my frenemies’ eyes.

But resisting his easy charm and surfer-boy hotness is darn near impossible. Though I’m realizing there’s much more to Conor’s story than his fan club can see.

And the longer this silly ruse goes on, the greater the danger of it all blowing up in my face.

★3.5 STARS★

I am always excited for an Elle Kennedy release, but the added fact that this was Connor’s book was even more of a draw for me. He partially stole the show when introduced in The Play, and I along with all other readers were hoping we would get the chance to see him in the spotlight.

He has looks, talent, riches and more importantly charisma, so it’s no surprise that he’s incredibly popular. It also doesn’t hurt that he is popular with female population of Briar U. He’s no stranger to hook ups but of late the lack of connection is a novelty that is quickly wearing off.

Sorority life has it pros and cons for Taylor and one of her lowest points comes when she is dared to hook up with none other than Conor. She’s not confident when it comes to guys and the fact Connor is a demigod makes her wish the ground would swallow her up. Rather than loose face infront of her bitchy sorority sisters she plucks up the courage accost him.

What begins as a fake hook up blossoms into a mutually beneficially fake relationship. Taylor gets to stick it to her Sorority sisters and Conor gets to enjoy Taylor’s company whilst being off the market jock chasers. Elle’s humour and charismatic characters are ever prevalent in the book but I have to say Connor was my favourite part. It wasn’t all humour from his part as he had personal issues with identity that affected him in ways unknown to his friends and family.

Taylor played a role in Connor confronting his past to a degree but I wish more emphasis would have been placed on Taylor being to manage her body/self image issues with professional guidance rather than it being a case of her finally believing Conor was attracted at her. Yes, I know it’s fiction, but I felt her issues were unresolved from that point of view. There was also another conflict late on in the story that felt more as a device rather than being integral to it. It may well be explored in another book, we shall see.

Although not my favourite book in the series it was still an enjoyable read, as this review should in no way put you off from snapping it up.

“Tell me something…why aren’t you already here with someone?”

“What do you mean?”

“There isn’t a guy in the picture somewhere?”

It’s my turn to shrink away from the topic. I’d probably have more to say with regards to thirteenth-century textiles than dating. And since I’ve embarrassed myself enough for one evening, I’d rather not compound my humiliation by sharing the details of my non-existent love life.

“So there is a story there,” Conor says, misreading my hesitation for coyness. “Let’s hear it.”

“What about you?” I volley back. “Haven’t settled on that one special groupie yet?”

He shrugs, unbothered by my teasing jab. “Don’t really do girlfriends.”

“Ugh, that sounds slimy.”

“No, I just mean I’ve never dated anyone for more than a few weeks. If it’s not there, it’s not there, you know?”

Oh, I know the type. Bores easy. Constantly looking over his shoulder at the next thing passing by. A walking meme in the flesh.

Figures. The pretty ones are always aching for their freedom.

“Don’t think you’ve distracted me,” he says, giving me a knowing smile. “Answer the question.”

“Sorry to disappoint. No guys. No story.” One unremarkable entanglement sophomore year that hardly fulfilled the definition of a relationship is too pathetic to warrant mention.

“Come on. I’m not as dumb as I look. What, did you break his heart? He spend six months sleeping on the sidewalk outside the sorority house?”

“Why do you assume I’m the kind of girl a guy would pine over in the rain and sleet?”

“You kidding?” His silvery eyes sweep over me, lingering on various parts of my body before returning to meet my gaze. Everywhere he looked is now tingling like crazy. “Babe, you’ve got the kind of body that boys build in their heads under the sheets after dark.”

“Don’t do that,” I tell him, all humor draining from my voice as I start to turn away. “Don’t mock me. That’s not nice.”

“Taylor.”

I jerk when he takes my hand, keeping me in place so that we’re still facing each other. As my pulse kicks into overdrive, he presses my shaky hand against his chest. His body is warm, solid. His heart beats a quick, steady rhythm beneath my palm.

I’m touching Conor Edwards’ chest.

What the hell is happening right now? Never in my wildest dreams did I envision the Kappa Chi Spring Break Hangover party ending this way.

“I mean it.” His voice thickens. “I’ve been sitting here having filthy thoughts about you all night. Don’t mistake my manners for indifference.”

★5 STARS★

I honestly think I had forgotten the feeling of being so engrossed in a romance until Samantha Young came along with Back Tangled Heart. It tells the story Jane and Jaime and their love story that spans decades. They first meet when Jane is enveloped into the family by his younger sister. Family is something Jane has never truly known, and being part of this one something that means so much to her.

Having aligned Jane with the selfishness of his younger sister, he is both surprised and blown away by her when he begins to get to know her under her own merits. Their two year age difference is a concern to him in their younger days but it’s only when Jane turns eighteen that things truly become serious between them.

Theirs is a bond that glued this story together. It was incredibly passionate, wholesome and transcended their age and situation. This made it all the more devastating when circumstances force them to part and Jaime transforms his heartbreak into hate.

All my being was poured into this read and I couldn’t have thanked the author enough for allowing me to loose myself in it, especially given the anxiousness the world is going through right now. As a reader I wanted nothing more.

THE RICH BOY by Kylie Scott

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: 9th March 2020

I’m the type of girl who’s given up on fairy tales. So when Beck – the hot new busboy at work – starts flirting with me, I know better than to get my hopes up. Happily ever afters aren’t for the average. I learned that the hard way.

But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world?

Only there’s so much more to him than that.

Billionaire playboy? Check.

Troubled soul? Check.

The owner of my heart, the man I’ve moved halfway across the country to be with, who’s laying the world at my feet in order to convince me to never leave? Check. Check. Check.

But nobody does complicated like the one percent.

This is not your everyday rags-to-riches, knight-in-shining armor whisking the poor girl off her feet kind of story. No, this is much messier.

“You haven’t told me your story,” he says once we’re seated in a booth and have ordered.

“I finished my degree and realized it was basically good for nothing and there were next to no jobs available anyway. Or at least nothing that appealed. Teachers and librarians are fighting for every scrap of funding they can get while newspapers are folding. The publishing industry is going through serious cutbacks. Majoring in English Lit may have been a mistake.” I shrug. Truth is, I got stuck for various reasons. But this explanation is easier to swallow. “Figured if I was going to wind up serving then I’d like to do it somewhere I can walk along the beach now and then, without getting stuck in traffic for hours.”

He nods. “Makes sense.”

“I thought so. I’ll figure out what I want to do with my life eventually.”

“No rush. Good that you can take the time and space to figure things out for yourself without anyone pressuring you.”

“Just the student loans hanging over my head,” I say.

His answering smile is brief and small. “Grow up around here?”

“Close enough, San Bernardino,” I say. “What about you?”

“No, I’m half a country away from home and intend to keep it that way. Though maybe half a country away is still too close. I hear Iceland’s nice this time of year.”

I raise my brows in question.

“Family.” He shrugs. “What can you do?”

The waitress delivers our food, filling up the table with Beck’s order of half of the breakfast menu. Without hesitation, he proceeds to devour it all. If I ate that much, my ass wouldn’t fit in the seat.

“Want some?” He offers me a forkful of pancake, dripping with syrup. “It’s good.”

“I’m fine with my burger. Thanks.” And I’m curious as heck about his family, but pressing him further wouldn’t be polite. Dammit.

“So what are my future wife’s favorite hobbies and or interests?”

“Hmm.” I stick a fry in my mouth and chew, thinking it over. “Reading, films, music…the usual. You?”

“Lots of things.”

“Such as?”

“I don’t know…hiking, rock climbing. Stuff like that.”

“So basically I like to sit still and you’re all about being busy and athletic. We have nothing in common.”

“No. Wait. I can change,” he jokes. “Give me another chance.”

“You shouldn’t have to change.” I swirl another fry in some ketchup. “I’m sure you’re perfectly fine just as you are.”

★4 STARS★

Alice’s degree in English doesn’t really come in handy in her role as waitress at a crummy bar. Sure she can inventively tell patrons to buzz off, but that’s as far as her expensive education goes.

Of late the most appealing thing about her job and life is the gorgeous newly employed member of staff.  Beck is the bar’s new busboy and if I haven’t mentioned already he’s gorgeous, but he and Alice’s attraction goes far beyond the physical when they begin spending time together.

Just when they are on the cusp of what feels like something special Beck is called home in circumstance that lead us to believe that’s there’s far more to Beck that meets the eye.

It’s a fairytale of sorts as we discover Beck is in fact a billionaire businessman who became disillusioned and left his work and family behind to gain perspective. He’s sensitive and funny and has it bad for our Alice.

Alice is thrust into a world of riches and glamour but with it also come jealousies and wicked intent she and Beck must navigate.

Rich in humour and swoons this was definitely a winning read for me.

A HEART OF BLOOD AND ASHES by Milla Vane

Series: A Gathering of Dragons, #1

Genre: Fantasy Romance

Release Date: 4th February 2020

A generation past, the western realms were embroiled in endless war. Then the Destroyer came. From the blood and ashes he left behind, a tenuous alliance rose between the barbarian riders of Parsathe and the walled kingdoms of the south. That alliance is all that stands against the return of an ancient evil—until the barbarian king and queen are slain in an act of bloody betrayal.

Though forbidden by the alliance council to kill the corrupt king responsible for his parents’ murders, Maddek vows to avenge them, even if it costs him the Parsathean crown. But when he learns it was the king’s daughter who lured his parents to their deaths, the barbarian warrior is determined to make her pay.

Yet the woman Maddek captures is not what he expected. Though the last in a line of legendary warrior-queens, Yvenne is small and weak, and the sharpest weapons she wields are her mind and her tongue. Even more surprising is the marriage she proposes to unite them in their goals and to claim their thrones—because her desire for vengeance against her father burns even hotter than his own…

★4 STARS★

If you would of told me one of my favourite reads this year would be a Barbarian Fantasy romance, I would have kindly told you to move along. But alas, here we are.

As a novice to fantasy A Heart of Blood and Ash came out of the blue but left a mark that has remained long after reading. The blurb alone was enough to pique my interest but it was the epic and wondrous story that kept me hooked.

It’s a tale of vengeance and bloodshed driven by Maddek’s need for retribution for the unlawful and treacherous murder of his parents. His plan to exact his revenge is to capture Yvenne who is the daughter of his enemy. Yvenne is not what he expected in the least, she looks sickly and but her spirit is strong. What she lacks in strength she more than makes up for in resilience and fortitude. Their alliance is the turning point of the story and really spoke to me as a lover of romance.

Milla Vane’s novel made for compelling reading and really welcomed me into a genre I have previously shied away from. I’m awaiting the next novel with baited breath and can’t wait to once again back in the gathering of Dragons.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ MAN CUFFED BY SARINA BOWEN & TANYA EBY

Genres: Romantic Comedy

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | iBooks | Kobo | Nook

MAN CUFFED by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby

Series: Man Hands, #4

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release Date: 19th October 2019

A new comedy from the USA Today bestselling duo!

Mac
A good cop can always spot trouble. That’s why my senses started pinging the moment I met the hottie next door. The neighborhood may never be the same. First she confuses me for a male stripper and tries to remove my uniform. (The guys on the force will never let me live that down.) And then there’s the breaking and entering.
I don’t know what to do with her. My libido has a few ideas of its own, though. Bad, bad ideas.

Meg
Hey, it’s not my fault that Hot Cop’s nightstick gets excited every time we see each other. And I can’t help that someone broke into his apartment.
Fine—that last thing was totally my fault. And I intend to make amends. So when he needs a date for his sister’s wedding, I’m there. This is right up my alley. I’m an actor. By the time it’s over, his entire family will believe we’re a couple.
Even him.

Warning: may cause unrestrained giggling in public. Contains: a bridezilla with a turkey leg, a flash mob, and a growly hero.

★4 STARS★

Bowen & Eby are back with the arrestingly funny addition to the Man Hands series!

It’s a hilarious case of mistaken identity when Meg incorrectly pegs “Hot Cop” Mac as a stripper. Having his uniform torn from him is not how he envisaged his shift going, but that’s exactly what the nutty waitress at his call out attempts to do.

He’s pretty much reconciled that he’ll never live it down at the station, but what he doesn’t expect is his ‘would-be’ offender moving in next door.

Meg is an entirely endearing character and whether it’s a role or a feeling, she immerses herself with unashamed abandonment. Off the cuff their personalities may make them appear as an odd pair, but they complimented each other so well, they could easily handle themselves against any of the best buddy cop duos.

There is little defence against the this Bowen & Eby when it comes to raising laughs, and as is the case with of Man Cuffed, they continue to maintain their right to remain sexy.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN BY TALIA HIBBERT

Genres: Contemporary Romance

GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN by Talia Hibbert

Release Date: 5th November 2019

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Talia Hibbert, one of contemporary romance’s brightest new stars, delivers a witty, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman who’s tired of being “boring” and recruits her mysterious, sexy neighbor to help her experience new things—perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and Helen Hoang.

Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamourous family’s mansion. The next items?

Enjoy a drunken night out.
Ride a motorcycle.
Go camping.
Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
And… do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.

Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.

But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior…

★4.5 STARS

My first experience of reading Talia Hibbert came earlier this year with her M/M novel, Work For It. It took no effort at all to fall into her pros and so I made a conscious effort to look out for more from her.

GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN is the tale of the incurably grumpy Chloe. Although she has a chronic illness, she is fiercely independent and is taking the steps to take control of her life with the help of her list.

Achieving her first goal of moving out goes without a hitch until she meets building superintendent, Red. Chloe has no time for silly notions such as crushes, so it comes as a great annoyance to her that she has tiniest little one on him. She tries her best to avoid him but he happens to upon her at her most unfortunate of moments.

Chloe was hilarious without meaning to be and it’s this which endeared to Red. He is extremely laid back and Chloe’s ability to rile him got them off on the wrong foot. When her walls slowly came she learned to rely on him in a way her illness had made her refuse to with anyone else.

Chloe is undoubtedly one of my favourite heroines of the year. She would probably be appalled but I found her to be utterly charming and adorable and an inspiration as such.

If you are in the mood for witty, hilarious and charismatic read, you need this book & Chloe Brown in you life!

About Talia Hibbert:

Talia Hibbert is a Black British author who lives in a bedroom full of books. Supposedly, there is a world beyond that room, but she has yet to drum up enough interest to investigate.

She writes steamy, diverse romance because she believes that people of marginalised identities need honest and positive representation. Her interests include makeup, junk food, and unnecessary sarcasm.

Talia publishes independently via Nixon House and is represented by Courtney Miller-Callihan at Handspun Literary.
