Madly has been a long time addition to my tbr, and I was glad to finally have the opportunity to have Allie’s story told. If you have read Truly, you’ll remember Allie as the flighty younger of May. It isn’t necessary to read Truly first, but I would recommend revisiting it for the enjoyment factor alone.

Along with Truly, About Last Night was another novel of Ruthie Knox I very much enjoyed. Why is that relevant you ask? Well, our male protagonist is none other than Winston Chamberlain, brother to Nev. As excited as I was to realise this, I worried it would be quite the challenge to change a previous opinion on two somewhat unlikeable characters.

The introduction to both story and characters soon quashed any hesitations I may have had. It’s an unconventional “meeting” to say the least. Allie is on a covert operation having followed her mother from Wisconsin to a New York bar. Her amateur skills of espionage require a diversion which involves the nearest person to her – who happens to be Winston.

Although Allie’s mission is never far from her mind, her diversion with Winston becomes a new focus. I wouldn’t like to describe Winston as stuffy, but it’s certainly a word that comes to mind. It’s adorable how much Allie helps to loosen him up. There is a guilt they both carry and the author did a great job in conjuring my empathy for them both.

Madly is romantically serendipitous, whilst being a fun quirky read. It was a pleasure to see the worlds collide and I look forward to the next novel in the series.

I love the anticipatory thrill that comes along with the prospect of a new Callie Hart novel. As an avid follower of her writing, I’m well versed in the knowledge of expecting the unexpected. Rooke is exactly what I love about a Callie Hart read, it’s dark, deeply-emotional and so damn sexy.

To the unknowing outsider Sasha Cross has it all. She has an impressive job, great friends and a home that most would envy. Beneath the surface however is gapping chasm left by the traumatic death of her six year old son. They say time is a healer, but in the five years since his death, she’s become well adept to functioning rather than living.

By way of hero, Rooke Blackheath is the unexpected kind. He has a stint in juvenile detention under his belt and makes no apologies for his lifestyle. As far as criminals go, ironic as it is to say, he’s one of the good guys. It’s difficult not to be drawn to Rooke. He has a boyish charm that is endearing, but don’t let that fool you, there is also the domineeringly alpha male that made me go weak in the knees.

He’s a shot of adrenaline in Sasha’s otherwise (self-inflicted) mundane life. As bizarrely as their paths cross, is as quickly as they become entwined. I have to say I was hesitant in regard to their age difference but my fears were quickly assuaged by not only their intense connection, but also by how little it mattered in the grand scheme of the story. I never thought there would be another hero of Callie’s that come could close Zeth Mayfair status for me, but my god did Rooke come close.

Much like my review there are a few things the blurb to Rooke does not mention. Personally for me it all was all part of the crazy ride. Rooke’s world is one that no amount of warning can prepare you for.

I am hopelessly charmed by Samantha Young’s delightful town of Hartwell. Its idyllic setting and charismatic residents make for a wonderful accoutrement to a series that continues to enamour with every novel read.

Bailey Hartwell’s ancestry is woven into the fabric of the town. She’s fiercely protective of its heritage and the people in it. As the owner of the local Inn her competition and adversary is wealthy hotelier, Vaughn Tremaine. Their well-documented disdain for another stems from Bailey’s distrust in him and his intentions. As much as Vaughn may feign interest, he’s irritated that he can’t quite the feisty Inn keeper off his mind.

What could have been a straight forward enemies to lovers story is further characterised by a personal journey they both take. It’s fair to say there were some frustrating decisions made on both ends, but I felt it added to the angst in their story.

As it seems to be the trend in this series Samantha sets the scene for the supporting characters to receive the Hartwell treatment. I have my fingers and toes crossed for Emery and Jack. I’m already in love with Emery and I all but smell a redemptive story for Jack.

I nervously laughed, thinking he was kidding; it was a huge mouthful. “It’s too much.”

“I know. Open, Savvy,” he said.

Oh, God, my belly dropped and my sex clenched. I swallowed, licking my lips again.

“No,” he said with a firm voice. “I didn’t ask you to lick your lips. Although that is fuckin’ delectable as hell.” His tone lowered further. “I asked you to open your mouth.”

My eyes widened. Holy. Fuck. That was hot. Demanding and a little scary because him using that voice I’d pretty much do anything he asked.

I opened, and he slid the dessert into my mouth, and since there was so much, it hit the roof, sides, and back of my throat. He didn’t remove the spoon right away and watched as I struggled not to pull away.

When I was just about to say screw it, he said, “My cock will fill your mouth a hell of a lot more than this.”

I nearly choked. And I would’ve if he didn’t slowly remove the spoon, my lips dragging over the cool, smooth surface of the spoon to make certain I took the entire dessert.

His elbow rested on the table, spoon in his hand, eyes on mine as I swallowed little by little until it was gone. The entire time I thought about his cock.
