★4 STARS★
Much like myself I imagine fans of the series would have been delighted when discovering Rawley and Faith would have their story told. We’ve witnessed Rawley’s acceptance into the family as a young boy, and even been their at Faith’s birth. We’ve always known the two (even at a young age) had a bond that surpassed a familial one and maybe I took for granted that their happily ever after may not be a smooth sailing one.
For various reasons Rawley held Faith at arms length. Although he was welcomed into the family by her parents as youngster, the circumstances around it have left him with an unbearable guilt he can’t seem to come to terms with. The older they became the harder it was for him in reigning in his feelings for Faith, and it’s after a particular moment of weakness that he decides to leave and make a life for himself.
It’s been six years since his departure and in those six years much has changed. Faith is, albeit with the support of her family, a single mother to a precocious five year old daughter, and the Town has transformed itself from the one he left behind. There’s much to catch up on and burning questions he has for Faith. She’s a force to be reckoned with and he can’t help but find himself blown over by the grownup version of her.
I found their story to be a sombre one, but I delighted in it all the same. I’m happy that at long last Rawley has found peace with himself and his place in the world. The Leigh family have brought hours of enjoyment and this novella was the icing on a very fruitful cake.
