MAN CUFFED by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby

Series: Man Hands, #4

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release Date: 19th October 2019

A new comedy from the USA Today bestselling duo!

Mac
A good cop can always spot trouble. That’s why my senses started pinging the moment I met the hottie next door. The neighborhood may never be the same. First she confuses me for a male stripper and tries to remove my uniform. (The guys on the force will never let me live that down.) And then there’s the breaking and entering.
I don’t know what to do with her. My libido has a few ideas of its own, though. Bad, bad ideas.

Meg
Hey, it’s not my fault that Hot Cop’s nightstick gets excited every time we see each other. And I can’t help that someone broke into his apartment.
Fine—that last thing was totally my fault. And I intend to make amends. So when he needs a date for his sister’s wedding, I’m there. This is right up my alley. I’m an actor. By the time it’s over, his entire family will believe we’re a couple.
Even him.

Warning: may cause unrestrained giggling in public. Contains: a bridezilla with a turkey leg, a flash mob, and a growly hero.

★4 STARS★

Bowen & Eby are back with the arrestingly funny addition to the Man Hands series!

It’s a hilarious case of mistaken identity when Meg incorrectly pegs “Hot Cop” Mac as a stripper. Having his uniform torn from him is not how he envisaged his shift going, but that’s exactly what the nutty waitress at his call out attempts to do.

He’s pretty much reconciled that he’ll never live it down at the station, but what he doesn’t expect is his ‘would-be’ offender moving in next door.

Meg is an entirely endearing character and whether it’s a role or a feeling, she immerses herself with unashamed abandonment. Off the cuff their personalities may make them appear as an odd pair, but they complimented each other so well, they could easily handle themselves against any of the best buddy cop duos.

There is little defence against the this Bowen & Eby when it comes to raising laughs, and as is the case with of Man Cuffed, they continue to maintain their right to remain sexy.

CODE OF CONDUCT by April White

Genre: Cipher Security, #1

Release Date: 15th October 2019

There are three things you need to know about Shane P.I.
1) P.I. is not her last name, it’s her job title,
2) Her specialty is catching cheaters, and
3) She’s a superhuman – kind of.

Gabriel is a security expert for Cipher Security, and a former UN Peacekeeper with a fierce protective streak that finds its focus on the beautiful P.I.

Their attraction is like an elephant in a room full of breakable things, and figuring out how to trust each other with their hearts, and maybe their lives, is the most fragile thing of all.

‘Code of Conduct’ is a full-length contemporary romantic suspense, can be read as a standalone, and is book#1 in the Cipher Security series, Knitting in the City World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

★4 STARS

I’m a first time reader of April White and I don’t think I could have picked a better book for my first outing. Aside the intrigue of the project, I was very much won over by my enjoyment of her writing and wit. Code of Conduct a story of espionage, suspense and romance, all wonderfully tied together by two kick ass leading characters.

Gabriel is a security expert for Cipher Security and his path crosses with Our Heroine Shane as they both are investigating a mutual person of interest. There is no reason for them to trust one another but in order to find the answers they are both looking for they have no choice but to combine forces.

Working alongside Gabriel requires trust, which is difficult for Shane. From the outset we are privy to how much and how far she goes to protect her identity. Collaborating with Gabriel and Cipher Security requires a leap of faith, and what’s scarier than the jump is just how much she wants Gabriel to catch her.

Shane was a special character in a number of ways. Her disability did not impede her in the least. In fact, she was superhuman in her strength, intelligence and resources she used in her role as a PI. Gabriel’s sweet and nurturing side was a great compliment to Shane’s toughness. As well as all the on screen action, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of these two.

About April White:

APRIL WHITE has been a film producer, private investigator, bouncer, teacher and screenwriter. She has climbed in the Himalayas, lived on a gold mine in the Yukon, and survived a shipwreck. She and her husband live in Southern California with their two sons, dog, various chickens, and a lifetime collection of books.

Facebook is a solid source of distraction for her, and therefore, her Facebook page, April White Books, is usually the first place to find news, teasers, quotes, and excerpts from her books. She also has a secret reader group on Facebook, called “Kick-Ass Heroines.” If you’d like to get in on some of those conversations, you can request an add here: Kick-Ass Heroines.

Sometimes that news links to Twitter, but she hasn’t mastered the art of the pithy tweet, and therefore often avoids the medium for fear of sounding boring.

Marking Time was the 2016 Library Journal Indie e-book winner for Young Adult books, and was chosen by Library Journal for national inclusion on both the fantasy and young adult SELF-e Library Select lists on Biblioboard, The whole series is also available for libraries nationwide through Overdrive, and April is very happy to participate in any library (or bookish) events to which she’s invited.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ THE PLAY BY ELLE KENNEDY

Genres: College Romance, Sports Romance

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UKiBooks | Kobo | B&N

THE PLAY by Elle Kennedy

Series: Briar U, #3

Genre: College/ Sports Romance

Release Date: 7th October 2019

A brand-new standalone novel in the New York Times bestselling Briar U series!

What I learned after last year’s distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter how hard that makes things.

But there’s nothing in the rulebook that says I can’t be friendswith a woman. And I won’t lie—my new classmate Demi Davis is one cool chick. Her smart mouth is hot as hell, and so is the rest of her, but the fact that she’s got a boyfriend eliminates the temptation to touch her.

Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound.

And she’s making a play for me.

Avoiding her is impossible. We’re paired up on a yearlong school project, but I’m confident I can resist her. We’d never work, anyway. Our backgrounds are too different, our goals aren’t aligned, and her parents hate my guts.

Hooking up is a very bad idea. Now I just have to convince my body—and my heart.

★4-4.5 STARS

Hunter Davenport is a man on a mission after the abysmal end to his last hockey season. He’s resolved to stay away from vices and leading his team to victory is the only goal he has his sights on. If you’re a fan of the series you’ll remember Hunter from The Chase. He wasn’t cast in the best light so it’s refreshing to see him renewed haven shaken the funk that led to downfall.

What unsuspecting Hunter doesn’t know is that his temptation would come in the guise research project partner, Demi Davis. The fact Demi has a boyfriend reinforces just how off limits she is, and if anything lays the path to a genuine friendship that they develop.

Demi is the perfect ying to Hunter’s yang. She’s sweet but tough, and gives Hunter a run for his money when it comes to their verbal sparring. When her relationship falls apart, Hunter is there as a shoulder to cry on. He’s so much more than she took him for and not long before she wants to explore things further, much to Hunter’s hesitance.

Elle Kennedy did not come to Play with the latest addition to the Briar U series. The humor is ever present and it was laughs aplenty, but it was the slow burn that made this a winner for me. Hunter totally redeemed himself from the previous poor judgement I had of him, so much so he’s my favourite Briar U boy yet.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ WHERE THE BLAME LIES BY MIA SHERIDAN

WHERE THE BLAME LIES by Mia Sheridan

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release Date: 15th September 2019

Abducted.
Terrorized.
Imprisoned.

At nineteen-years-old, college student Josie Stratton was kidnapped by a madman and held shackled for ten months in an abandoned warehouse before she finally escaped her hellish prison.

Eight years later, when the body of a young woman is found chained in the basement of a vacant house, Cincinnati Police Detective Zach Copeland is instantly reminded of the crime committed against Josie Stratton. Zach was just a rookie on the perimeter of that case, but he’s never forgotten the traumatized woman with the haunted eyes.

As more information emerges, the crimes take on an even more sinister similarity. But Josie’s attacker died by suicide. Does the city have a copycat on its hands? A killer who picked up where the original perpetrator left off? Or are they facing something far more insidious?

Josie has spent the last eight years attempting to get her life back on track, but now there’s a very real chance she could be the unknown suspect’s next target. As Zach vows to keep her safe, and Josie finds herself responding to him in a way she hasn’t responded to any man in almost a decade, the investigation takes on an even more complex edge of danger.

As past and present collide, Josie and Zach are thrust toward a shocking and chilling truth. A revelation that threatens not only Josie’s life, but everything she’s been fighting so desperately to reclaim.

Where The Blame Lies both shattered and soothed me. It’s premise is born from a dark and traumatising event that changed the course of Josie Stratton’s life. As she attempts to rises from the ashes that was once her life, she is pulled back into the darkness in order to save others from the cruelty she once suffered.

At the head of the investigation is  Detective Zach Copeland. Like myself he is moved by Josie’s strength and determination. Although stronger now, he is there as a shoulder and to carry her when she buckles from the memories that threaten to overwhelm her of late.

Mia Sheridan can always be relied upon to bring such heightened emotion to her stories. She has the ability to tap into the core of human nature and bring forth it’s beauty no matter how dire the circumstance.

Although a suspenseful and vivid story, it was delicately balanced by the intimacies between Josie and Zach, as well as Josie’s own personal triumph. I adore all Mia’s Characters but long with Archer, Josie stands above the rest.

About the Author:

Mia Sheridan is a New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Her passion is weaving true love stories about people destined to be together. Mia lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband. They have four children here on earth and one in heaven.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ WORK FOR IT BY TALIA HIBBERT

Genres: M/M Romance

WORK FOR IT by Talia Hibbert

Genre: M/M Romance

Release Date: 3rd September 2019

For men like us, trust doesn’t come easy.

In this village, I’m an outcast: Griffin Everett, the scowling giant who prefers plants to people. Then I meet Keynes, a stranger from the city who’s everything I’m not: sharp-tongued, sophisticated, beautiful. Free. For a few precious moments in a dark alleyway, he’s also mine, hot and sweet under the stars… until he crushes me like dirt beneath his designer boot.

When the prettiest man I’ve ever hated shows up at my job the next day, I’m not sure if I want to strangle him or drag him into bed. Actually—I think I want both. But Keynes isn’t here for the likes of me: he makes that painfully clear. With everyone else at work, he’s all gorgeous, glittering charm—but when I get too close, he turns vicious.

And yet, I can’t stay away. Because there’s something about this ice king that sets me on fire, a secret vulnerability that makes my chest ache. I’ll do whatever it takes to sneak past his walls and see the real man again.

The last thing I expect is for that man to ruin me.

★4 STARS

It was clear from the outset that the story would be an emotional one, and I was surprised at how quickly I had formed bonds with Olu & Griff. For the most part they are plagued with self doubt that manifested itself differently in both of them.

Olu has hurt deeply by a breach of trust and as a result he finds himself crippled by the notion of intimacy. His visceral reaction to Griff catches him unawares and his immediate reaction is to harshly reject him. For years Griff has been dismissed and  overlooked and to be seen by someone like Olu, albeit briefly, opens him up to the idea of love and being loved.

WORK FOR IT was much more than what was eluded to in the blurb, and as much as I am a sucker for a grumpy hero, I was humbled by the challenges faced by both protagonists. Testament to the author’s story telling it was realistic, poignant and heartbreaking at times. I was completely overwhelmed by my adoration Olu & Griff and my need to champion their happiness. A story of hope and self discovery, it’s not one I will forget anytime soon.

ABSOLUTION by Keri Lake

Release Date: 26th August 2019

Genre: Dark Romance

According to canon law, it is forbidden for a priest to betray the penitent for any reason. Even murder.

The consequences?

Excommunication.

For years, I’ve listened to your confessions. I know your darkest secrets, and have swallowed your sins in silence. In return, I’ve offered you forgiveness in His name. But behind the partition that separates us, I’m nothing more than a man who has long questioned his own faith.

Your contrition is my invitation: to mete out the kind of justice you pray will never come. I’m neither pious, nor merciful, despite what you see. I’m an imposter, an abomination to all I represent. A quiet executioner who’s kept below the radar.

Until her.

She’s seen what I’ve done. She knows the man beneath the cloth and my every mortal sin. She has witnessed the uncontrollable vices she hopes to use against me in order to get what she covets most.

Yet, I know her sins, too. Ones she doesn’t bother to confess. The kind, for which, there is no absolution.

SUPERFAN by Sarina Bowen

Sometimes lady luck shakes your hand, and sometimes she smacks your face. Sometimes she does both on the same day.

Three years ago I met the most amazing girl in the world. We were both down on our luck. Then I got that call—the one that tells you to get your buns on a plane to go meet your destiny.

While I became a professional hockey player, she became a superstar, with platinum records and legions of fans. And a slick, music producer boyfriend who treated her badly.

But fate wasn’t done with us yet. When Delilah turns up at a hockey game, I can’t resist making contact. The internet swoons when I ask her out on a date.

She might not remember me. But her jerkface ex does. He’ll do anything to keep us apart.

Good thing athletes never give up. This time I’m playing for keeps.

★4.5 STARS★

Superfan is the much anticipated story of Brooklyn Bruiser goalie Silas Kelly, and superstar
songstress Delilah Spark. It can be read as a standalone but you’ve read the previous book in the series you’ll recall it was heavily alluded to that Silas’ relationship with Delilah went beyond that of him being a fan of her music.

Discovering their connection and how deep it went was as sweet and exciting as witnessing the two reconnect. There’s an honesty and unassuming nature to their relationship and I adored just how much they wanted to be together, and the qualities they brought out of each other.

Strong, resilient woman always get my vote, and Delilah can be counted among them. She was charming, humble and a lovely character to read. Silas was an unexpected character for me, I’d always thought of him as nice, but I wasn’t prepared for him to outdo his team mates with the swagger and finesse that he did.

This is a series that keeps on giving, and much to my delight Sarina and her Bruisers show no signs of slowing down.

★REVIEW★ WHAT WE DO IN THE NIGHT BY STYLO FANTOME

Genres: Erotic Romance

WHAT WE DO IN THE NIGHT by Stylo Fantome

Series: Day to Night #1

Release Date: 21st June 2019

Just five months ago, Valentine O’Dell started working at a very special kind of club – one where you can dance the night away, or live out your greatest fantasy. She’s learned to lose herself to her nights, forgetting all her day time woes as she charms every man she meets. It’s easy enough to do when she doesn’t let her feelings get involved.

Then Ari Sharapov walked in and changed everything.

Working for his father’s law firm has left Ari with very little control over his life, so when he meets Valentine for the first time, he sees a girl who is desperate for someone to take care of her. To take over her. So what he can’t get for himself in the day time, he’ll simply take for himself at night. But when power struggles lead to real feelings, who’s actually controlling whom?

Some relationships are better left in the dark.

★4.5 STARS★

It’s been a while since I last read a novel by Stylo Fantome and I’m not ashamed to say it was the cover art that first attracted me to this one. However, once having read the blurb I was more than attracted to the sensual intrigue it promised.

What We Do in the Night is apt in both title and theme of Valentine O’Dell’s life of late. By day she is a hard working student majoring in Design Management and at night she brings peoples fantasies to life at exclusive adult playground, Caché. Not quite a club, Caché is a place where people can either have an incredible night out, or indulge in a more hedonist experience if they so wish. It’s Val’s job as fixer of sorts to find out what it is the client wants, and to make sure they get it.

Val is a character I knew I was going to like from the outset. She has a story, and her circumstances have led her to Caché. But rather than let it affect her she grits her teeth and absorbs the blows that life socks her with. She’s not immune to being overwhelmed at times, which is why when Ari Sharapov makes her a proposition, she feels a relief in pressure and says yes.

When you take control, it means I don’t have to be in control anymore. It means for just a little while, I don’t have to be making the big decisions.

Ari is an asshole plain and simple. He’s successful, handsome and can turn most situations into one that is advantageous to him. He’s rather clinical in his attraction to Val. He acknowledges and wants to explore it until I suspect it wears off and he moves on. As we get to get to know him we realise that indeed he’s still an asshole, but it’s more of a device he uses with Val to mask his admiration and fierce feelings of protectiveness he has for her. Ari was once smug enough to think of Val as a commodity, and it was enjoyable for me and humbling for him to realise she is in fact his most valuable asset.

What We Do in the Night is a sinfully good exploration of desire and finding love in the most unlikely of places. It was addictive and pleasurable reading which left me on a high and desperate for the conclusion to Val and Ari’s story.

About the Author:

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since …, forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ THE FRIEND ZONE BY ABBY JIMENEZ

Genres: Contemporary Romance
Published by Forever

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | iBooks | B&N | Kobo |

THE FRIEND ZONE by Abby Jimenez

Release Date: 11th June 2019

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Kristen Petersen doesn’t do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don’t get her. She’s also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.

Planning her best friend’s wedding is bittersweet for Kristen—especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He’s funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he’d be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it’s harder and harder to keep him at arm’s length.

The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.

★5 STARS★

My attempt of not feeding into the hype from The Friend Zone goes something like this, *ahem* “Say hello to one of your favourite reads of the year!”

I know, I know, I failed miserably, but I can’t be blamed because I had the best time reading this and feel it’s my duty to shout it from the rooftops. The characters were fantastic, and the humour hit the spot. From Kristen with her snarky, craggy ways to her adorable one of a kind dog, Stuntman Mike.

Kristen’s health concerns brought a more serious element to the story, and the first cracks in the relationship with Josh. Throughout it all Josh was consistent and caring and there wasn’t one thing I didn’t love about him.

The romance tentative and fraught, and the tension served so well in heightening the push and pull between Kristen and Josh. There were casualties along the way but so great was my bias I easily overlooked it.

Although The Friend Zone is Abby’s debut I found myself asking where she has been all my life. I love her voice and humour and am very excited about what Ms Jimenez will deliver to us next.
