SPACE by Penny Reid

Series: Laws of Physics #2

Genre: Contemporary Romance

One week.
Private cabin.
Famous physicist.
Still an unrepentant slacker.
What’s the worst that could happen?

Mona’s meticulously planned allotment of relaxation is thrown into chaos by the unscheduled appearance of her older brother’s band of friends, including the one person she’d hoped to never face again. Abram still makes her feel entirely too much, which is one of the reasons she disappeared after their one week together. But now, trapped on a mountain of snow and things unspoken, Mona will have to find a way to coexist with Abram, chaos and all.

Laws of Physics is the second trilogy in the Hypothesis series; Laws of Physics parts 1 (MOTION) & 2 (SPACE) end with a cliffhanger.

★3.5 – 4 STARS★

The anticipation of how things would unfold has kept me on the edge of my seat and embarrassingly desperate for the second instalment of the Physics series. To recap briefly, studious and career driven Mona Da Vinci, (who in a misplaced sense of guilt due to their estrangement) agrees to impersonate her twin sister Lisa in her hour of need. I say hour, but in actual fact it’s a week. A week of living with Abram, their brother’s best friend, who has been tasked to keep an eye on “Lisa”

Of all the disasters Mona envisaged, falling in love with Abram was not one of them. Yet in the here and now where the story picks up, the fallout of their week together is set to take place before our very eyes. Oddly I couldn’t help but feel it as satisfying as it is dissatisfying. It’s worth remembering that theirs is an intricate story due to its timeline and crossover of familiar characters, and in staying true to that, it’s understandable that things may not have moved at the pace I maybe expected.

That said, when the ill-fated couple come face to face once again I was happily sucked into the tsunami of hope and pain, as well as the bliss of a newfound dynamic they establish for themselves.

Lulled into a blissful false sense of security the story ends before I was ready for it too.  My appetite is whet, my interest is piqued, and April seems like an ungodly amount of time to have to wait for the final instalment.

CRASHING INTO HER by Mia Sosa

Series: Love on Cue #3

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Relationships are a thing of the past for Eva Montgomery. Her current motto? You can’t spell “manipulative” without man. But Eva has needs, and a one-night-stand at her best friend’s wedding is the perfect way to kick off her new approach to singledom. Then a job opportunity puts her in the same city with the guy she can’t forget . . .

Anthony Castillo is a perpetual bachelor—no strings, just flings—a status he maintains by being honest about his intentions and never looking back. So why is he still thinking about the firecracker of a woman who rocked his world at his cousin’s wedding? It’s a question he refuses to answer, until she comes crashing back into his life, taking his emotional walls down with her.

When her father doubts her ability to make it in LA, Eva vows to go big and prove him wrong. With her athletic background, she’s an ideal candidate for stunt work. But first she’ll need training, and the instructor is none other than her former hookup, Anthony Castillo. Except he’s not as cocky as she remembers and he’s definitely still sexy as sin. The only problem is . . . Anthony doesn’t want her anywhere near his stunt school—or his heart.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ THE RISK BY ELLE KENNEDY

Genres: New Adult, Sports Romance

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | iBooks | Kobo | Nook |

THE RISK by Elle Kennedy

Series: Briar U, #2

Genre: New Adult, Sports Romance

A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy. THE RISK takes you back to the world of hot hockey players, feisty heroines, bro banter, and steamy scenes…

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

★4 STARS★

As a staunch hockey lover and supporter of Briar U, Harvard hotshot Jake Connelly is public enemy number one where Brenna Jensen is concerned. If you’ve read The Chase you’ll remember we were teased by what was to come with their sharp back and forth. The teams are long-time rivals and with the amounting tension rising due to them being set to face off on the ice, it’s both a nuisance and inconvenience that circumstances have thrown them into a situation that requires them to enter a fake relationship.

Admittedly the nuisance and inconvenience is one sided as Jake loves nothing more than rubbing Brenna up the wrong way. She’s feisty and self-assured, and his attraction to her means he’s more than happy to be her fake boyfriend if it affords him the opportunity to get to know her better with one of his mandatory real dates.

The banter of was off the charts and I loved how these two bounced off one another. Combined with the fantastic secondary characters (shout out to Hollis & Rupi) who brought the laughs, The Risk has been my favourite outing with the series so far.

There were some serious moments when it came to Brenna’s ex and her strained relationship with her father, as well as dealing with gender equality in the world of sports broadcasting. I felt these added to the substance of the story and made for a well-rounded read.

The momentum to this series is well and truly picking up and I’m waiting with baited breathe for the puck to drop with the next instalment.

MOTION by Penny Reid

Series: Laws of Physics #1

Genre: Contemporary Romance

One week.
Home alone.
Girl genius.
Unrepentant slacker.
Big lie.
What’s the worst that could happen?

Mona is a smart girl and figured everything out a long time ago. She had to. She didn’t have a choice. When your parents are uber-celebrities and you graduate from high school at fifteen, finish college at eighteen, and start your PhD program at nineteen, you don’t have time for distractions outside of your foci. Even fun is scheduled. Which is why Abram, her brother’s best friend, is such an irritant.

Abram is a talented guy, a supremely gifted musician, and has absolutely nothing figured out, nor does he seem to care. He does what he feels, when he feels, and—in Mona’s opinion—he makes her feel entirely too much.

Laws of Physics is the second trilogy in the Hypothesis series; Laws of Physics parts 1 (MOTION) & 2 (SPACE) end with a cliffhanger.

★4 STARS★

To say I’ve been eagerly anticipating this series is a massive understatement. As a huge fan of the Elements of Chemistry trilogy I’m more than ready to jump back on the rollercoaster of blistering slow burn, and tortured suspenseful cliff-hangers.

Mona is an incredibly intelligent and hardworking young woman whose next academic challenge sees her set her sights on a PhD program. Unfortunately for her an unexpected call from her twin sister dramatically veers the course of her projected trajectory.

Mona and Lisa have been estranged for years, identical in looks only they differ in all other ways. Where Mona excelled in school, Lisa outclassed in finding trouble. There’s a hint of a miscommunication that has led to the estrangement but nonetheless Mona drops everything to help her sister who is obviously in need.

Helping her sister involves impersonating her for a week, and if that wasn’t a tall enough order, Mona has to live with and convince their brother’s best friend, Abram. Abram has a reputation for being a talented musician who for reasons unknown dropped out of high school. He’s pitched as a slacker but in all honesty I didn’t really get that vibe from him in his adulthood. He’s been tasked to babysit Lisa so it’s hard to get a sense of how proactive he could be in the meantime.

He does however achieve expert level swoon with his flashes of boyish charm and inherent need to see the good in “Lisa”. There’s a lot of intrigue with Abram, I loved the deep thinking, moody waves that roll off him, and even though the situation is highly complicated one, there were many times I wished for Mona to take the plunge.

Of course she’s far too pragmatic to do that, but as the days roll on and their intensity and interactions take on new meaning she subtly finds herself weighing up the risks/benefits. I flitted between enthusiasm and nervousness as the story developed, desperate for them to take it to the next level. There’s deep foreboding of the lie being outed, I know it’s going to hurt like a sonofabitch, but I can’t wait for it to happen.

On this occasion the cliff-hanger was more of a gentle pause so I wouldn’t let that put you off if you were hesitating in picking it up because of it. That said due to enjoyment purposes alone it’s of the upmost urgency that I get my hands on the next instalment.

GENTLEMAN SINNER by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: 5th February 2019

An all-the-feels novel of fierce love overcoming a dark past from the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling THIS MAN series.

Izzy White knows of the darkness in this world. After all, she escaped it long ago. Determined not to let her past beat her, Izzy has a secure, stable life with a job she loves in nursing. But one act of kindness will completely upend everything she’s so carefully built-putting her right back in the crosshairs of danger she’s been so desperate to avoid.

When Theo Kane shows up like a knight in shining armor, Izzy can’t help thinking she’s been saved from one threat and exposed to another. His imposing physique, the harsh lines of his face, and the wariness of everyone who comes close are just a few clues to Theo Kane’s notorious reputation. The man is positively terrifying. But with Izzy, he’s tender and a complete gentleman, and her fascination with the mysterious beast of a man becomes too powerful for her to walk away.

As Theo’s demons come to light, running becomes even more impossible. And yet staying together could doom them both.

★2.5-3 STARS★

Izzy White is a woman who although has been subject of the cruelty finds peace in caring for others as a Nurse. She’s worked hard to forge a way for herself and her sense of pride is palpable. She’s compassionate to a fault, so much so, what should have been an uneventful walk home from work ends with her being in a position of real danger.

Her saviour is an imposing figure whose intrigue overrides her very alert sense of caution. He’s obviously dangerous but the care he takes with her is what I suspect prevents her from being able to walk away from him. Theo Kane is an intimidating figure with scars that go deep, but Izzy seems to be the balm that soothes them.

Their relationship is a complex one and there are many factors which make it dysfunctional to anyone looking in. Theo has zero boundaries and I found myself leery of some of the behaviours he perceived as acceptable. I have no doubt they would deem to describe their relationship as passionate, but at several times I was more incline to find frustrating a more descriptive term.

It was an incredibly strong start but ultimately I found the dramatics overshadowed the story, and with it my enjoyment of it. Sins were although forgiven with the epilogue. I enjoyed witnessing how far they had come together and at last meeting the Gentleman behind the Sinner.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ 99 PERCENT MINE BY SALLY THORNE

99 PERCENT MINE by Sally Thorne

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: 29th January 2019

Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.

When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.

Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that’s inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.

★4 STARS★

Darcy Barrett has wanted Tom Valeska from the moment she laid eyes on him. Even at eight years old she felt a protective-kinship toward him, but being slow of the mark he was “claimed” by her twin brother Jaime, and Darcy found herself relegated into the role of “best friend’s sister”.

I think I met my ideal man when I was eight, and no one else has ever measured up.

That said, they had their moments over the years, but just when they are on the cusp of developing a different type of relationship Darcy does what becomes a recurring theme in her life and runs away. She justifies her flaw of never settling in one place for too long as her being a free spirit. She’s wonderfully quirky, with a dizzying train of thought, and it’s obvious a life of conformity is not for her.

Being somewhat estranged, and it’s their grandmother’s passing that forces the twins to establish an open line communication. Meddling from beyond the grave, their grandmother instructs them to renovate her home in order to sell it in to receive their full inheritance. Darcy will be damned if she allow her brother to take over renovations turning it into a charmless yuppie’s wet dream, so she decides her time is best served “helping”.

Any reservations she has about staying fly out of the window when she learns that *the* Tom Valeska is in charge of the project. Her grandmother’s house means as much to him as it does her, but it isn’t nostalgia that reaffirms her decision to stick around. Tom Valeska deserves his name to be said in full at all times. His role has been that of peacekeeper and fixer but for the first time he takes a risk on doing something for himself, whether it be the project in hand, or wrangling the handful that is Darcy.

“No one else is kissing you anymore,” he tells me in a conversational hush, not breaking our contact. “Your mouth is mine.”

I had real life butterflies reading this book. The slow burn teamed with Sally’s ability of engaging the reader in the intimacies of the characters are just two reasons why I’m quickly becoming addicted to with her novels. Add to that her signature humour, and my need to read all things Sally Thorne show no signs of abating.

“Telling her I love her might just ruin our friendship, but watching her marry someone else? Means losing her forever.”

Moment of Truth is the story of Dean & Gabby, they’ve been best friends since childhood but it’s only in college that that they dare to confront their feelings about one another. There’s fear of rejection on both sides, but ultimately it’s the fear of ruining their treasured friendship that puts the kibosh on them taking things further.

Years later and Dean tormented by his missed opportunity when it looks as if Gabby will never be his in the way he feels she’s destined to be. He truly wanted what was best for her and I adored the way he put her feelings before his own to his detriment.  I loved the heighten angst of the “will they, won’t they” combined the with what I felt to be genuine intimacy at the core of their relationship.

“I think I’ve loved you my whole life.”

I’ve long been a fan of Veronica Larsen’s storytelling. Whether it be a full length novel or a bite sized one such as  MOMENT OF TRUTH, she leaves no emotional stone unturned.

★4 STARS★

Much like myself I imagine fans of the series would have been delighted when discovering Rawley and Faith would have their story told. We’ve witnessed Rawley’s acceptance into the family as a young boy, and even been their at Faith’s birth. We’ve always known the two (even at a young age) had a bond that surpassed a familial one and maybe I took for granted that their happily ever after may not be a smooth sailing one.

For various reasons Rawley held Faith at arms length. Although he was welcomed into the family by her parents as youngster, the circumstances around it have left him with an unbearable guilt he can’t seem to come to terms with. The older they became the harder it was for him in reigning in his feelings for Faith, and it’s after a particular moment of weakness that he decides to leave and make a life for himself.

It’s been six years since his departure and in those six years much has changed. Faith is, albeit with the support of her family, a single mother to a precocious five year old daughter, and the Town has transformed itself from the one he left behind. There’s much to catch up on and burning questions he has for Faith. She’s a force to be reckoned with and he can’t help but find himself blown over by the grownup version of her.

I found their story to be a sombre one, but I delighted in it all the same. I’m happy that at long last Rawley has found peace with himself and his place in the world. The Leigh family have brought hours of enjoyment and this novella was the icing on a very fruitful cake.
