Demand is the highly suspenseful follow up in Lisa Renee Jones’ Careless Whispers series. Picking up in the highly charged scene we left off in in Denial, Ella believes herself in a position to finally uncover some answers. But true to the spirit of the series, the answers only serve to raise further questions.
Her understandable turmoil is echoed throughout her internal dialogue, which also acts as a device to heighten intrigue, along with the flashbacks she continues to suffer. Although her feelings for Kayden feel anything but a lie, she can’t help but have moments of niggling doubts. Can she trust what little she does know to be real? Can Kayden intentions be trusted? Can she even trust herself?
With outside sources such as Detective Gallo and The Italian mob in the fray, Kayden and Ella’s relationship hinges on more than her memory returning, and it seems we still have a way to go before we uncover the truth behind Ella’s identity. And until then, I remain on the edge of my seat.
