RR_synopsis

I was afraid to fly.
He made me soar.

After years of climbing the ladder of success in the music industry, I finally had everything I could want.
Yet I still found myself wandering through life alone.

Captain Evan Roth was the one man I never saw coming.
Tall, dark, mysterious… Straight.

We were both damaged beyond repair and searching for something so elusive we weren’t sure it even existed.

But, when two broken souls collide in midair, falling is a given.

I just never expected to crave the spiral down.

Review – 5 STARS

The Spiral Down left me with the highest of book highs, I’ve yet to come down. If you’ve read The Fall Up, you’ll know Henry Alexander as the larger than life best friend to Pop songstress, Levee Williams. Even then as a supporting character his presence was enough to steal the limelight, but after this I’d consider him nothing short of a main stage extravaganza.

You’d think as a highly talented and successful singer/songwriter, he’d be prone to a drama queen episode or two… and you’d be exactly right!
Aly outdid herself when she dreamt him up, there is no part of his character that is wasted. Every nuance, aside and quip delivered hit home and you can’t help but find Henry anything but lovable.

The sentiment isn’t initially shared by Captain Evan Roth when he is hired to step in when Henry’s usual pilot falls ill, and what ensues is one of the funniest and sweetest scenes I’ve read in a while. So taken is Henry, he promptly decides Evan fits the bill as his next flight of fancy.

The levity of the story doesn’t make it any less impactful, there are many layers to peel back with both Henry and Evan. Even bigger than any diva like command is Henry’s heart. He’s loyal to a fault and has immense love for those in his life, and when the last note is sung it’s more than he adoration of his fans he craves. Evan too has insecurities, he’s a steadfast character and Henry’s presence in his life forces him to deal with some unresolved issues.

The Spiral Down is by far my favourite read by Aly Martinez and I can’t rave enough about how fantastic a read it was. The epilogue was the perfect encore, but even so, you will not see me turning down an chance to revisit this couple again if the opportunity arises. *hint hint*
