Synopsis:
Baseball isn’t supposed to be a game of life and death…
The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase … he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.
I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.
Then, the team started losing.
Women started dying.
And everything in my world broke apart.

Being the daughter of a living baseball legend, seventeen year old Tyler “Ty” Rollins lives and breathes baseball. With her mind permanently in the game, it takes the whirlwind of the teams new signing to claim her attention. The attraction goes beyond the physical, and although Chase Stern comes with his own warning label, she can’t seem to stay away.
As the bad boy of baseball, Chase is completely at odds with the teams clean cut image. It would serve him well to keep his head down after his last scandal, but instead he swaps one vice for another. He knows he should stay away from Ty, but when was the last time he did what he was told?
A woman shouldn’t be created in such heartbreakingly beautiful combinations.
The height of my anxiety at their clandestine meetings was opposed by my delight of their blossoming relationship. The innocence and soul bearing nature of their relationship added to the foreboding that circled in the background. There is an underlining sense of melancholy that outweighs and I couldn’t help but fear for the worst.
Surprisingly I was not the biggest fan of one of the central plots in latter part of the story. By this stage I was so engaged in their relationship, the references made to the murders almost felt a distraction to me. The descriptive element of Alessandra’s writing is a notable aspect of the book. She perfectly conveys the world of baseball in a way that felt organic, as well as capturing the emotions involved on and off the field.
At this point in my Alessandra Torre reading career, I’ve learned to expect the twists. Mystery and intrigue are the order of the day, and on this basis Alessandra delivers a delectable dish. On the surface Moonshot is a sports romance with a forbidden element. Peel below the layers, and it’s a story about finding acceptance and belonging in the unlikeliest of places.
