MOONLIGHTER by Sarina Bowen

Genre: Sports Romance

Release Date: 22nd October 2019

Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.

I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.

Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.

But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.

So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?

It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.

Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.

★5 STARS★

After devouring MOONLIGHTER, I honestly don’t know whether it’s Alex or Eric I have the biggest crush on. Take Alex, she’s an incredibly successful computer programmer and a leader of industry. Her newest innovation has garnered some unwanted attention and with it attempts of sabotage. Although a huge problem in itself, she actually has a more pressing matter at hand, which she needs dealt with swiftly and discreetly.

Discreet is the motto of Eric Bayer’s family run security company. It’s so discreet intact, it doesn’t have a name. Although Eric is more than happy with his illustrious hockey career he’s been roped in by father and brother to help out on Alex’s case.

There’s history with Alex and Eric. They where thick as thieves in childhood but more recently an awkward brush off is the bone of contention that needs to be picked. Eric’s role of bodyguard has them living and working closely together and it’s not long before their history and familiarity develops into intimacy.

Much like Pavlov’s classical conditioning, the mere mention of Eric’s name causes me to salivate. He’s assertive and playful, but it’s his deep rooted caring nature that has me gaga over the man. MOONLIGHTER is a story that keeps on giving. There’s a sizzlingly romance, action filled scenes along with some heartfelt touching moments.

I may sound like a broken record when it comes to Sarina but, I seriously enjoyed this one! My new favorite!

THE PLAY by Elle Kennedy

Series: Briar U, #3

Genre: College/ Sports Romance

Release Date: 7th October 2019

A brand-new standalone novel in the New York Times bestselling Briar U series!

What I learned after last year’s distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter how hard that makes things.

But there’s nothing in the rulebook that says I can’t be friendswith a woman. And I won’t lie—my new classmate Demi Davis is one cool chick. Her smart mouth is hot as hell, and so is the rest of her, but the fact that she’s got a boyfriend eliminates the temptation to touch her.

Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound.

And she’s making a play for me.

Avoiding her is impossible. We’re paired up on a yearlong school project, but I’m confident I can resist her. We’d never work, anyway. Our backgrounds are too different, our goals aren’t aligned, and her parents hate my guts.

Hooking up is a very bad idea. Now I just have to convince my body—and my heart.

★4-4.5 STARS

Hunter Davenport is a man on a mission after the abysmal end to his last hockey season. He’s resolved to stay away from vices and leading his team to victory is the only goal he has his sights on. If you’re a fan of the series you’ll remember Hunter from The Chase. He wasn’t cast in the best light so it’s refreshing to see him renewed haven shaken the funk that led to downfall.

What unsuspecting Hunter doesn’t know is that his temptation would come in the guise research project partner, Demi Davis. The fact Demi has a boyfriend reinforces just how off limits she is, and if anything lays the path to a genuine friendship that they develop.

Demi is the perfect ying to Hunter’s yang. She’s sweet but tough, and gives Hunter a run for his money when it comes to their verbal sparring. When her relationship falls apart, Hunter is there as a shoulder to cry on. He’s so much more than she took him for and not long before she wants to explore things further, much to Hunter’s hesitance.

Elle Kennedy did not come to Play with the latest addition to the Briar U series. The humor is ever present and it was laughs aplenty, but it was the slow burn that made this a winner for me. Hunter totally redeemed himself from the previous poor judgement I had of him, so much so he’s my favourite Briar U boy yet.

★4.5 STARS★

Superfan is the much anticipated story of Brooklyn Bruiser goalie Silas Kelly, and superstar
songstress Delilah Spark. It can be read as a standalone but you’ve read the previous book in the series you’ll recall it was heavily alluded to that Silas’ relationship with Delilah went beyond that of him being a fan of her music.

Discovering their connection and how deep it went was as sweet and exciting as witnessing the two reconnect. There’s an honesty and unassuming nature to their relationship and I adored just how much they wanted to be together, and the qualities they brought out of each other.

Strong, resilient woman always get my vote, and Delilah can be counted among them. She was charming, humble and a lovely character to read. Silas was an unexpected character for me, I’d always thought of him as nice, but I wasn’t prepared for him to outdo his team mates with the swagger and finesse that he did.

This is a series that keeps on giving, and much to my delight Sarina and her Bruisers show no signs of slowing down.

★NEW RELEASE & ARC REVIEW★ FUMBLED BY ALEXA MARTIN

FUMBLED by Alexa Martin

Series: Playbook, #2

Genre: Sports Romance

Release Date: 23rd April 2019

A second chance doesn’t guarantee a touchdown in this new contemporary romance from the author of Intercepted.

Single-mother Poppy Patterson moved across the country when she was sixteen and pregnant to find a new normal. After years of hard work, she’s built a life she loves. It may include a job at a nightclub, weekend soccer games, and more stretch marks than she anticipated, but it’s all hers, and nobody can take that away. Well, except for one person.

TK Moore, the starting wide receiver for the Denver Mustangs, dreamt his entire life about being in the NFL. His world is football, parties, and women. Maybe at one point he thought his future would play out with his high school sweetheart by his side, but Poppy is long gone and he’s moved on.

When Poppy and TK cross paths in the most unlikely of places, emotions they’ve suppressed for years come rushing back. But with all the secrets they never told each other lying between them, they’ll need more than a dating playbook to help them navigate their relationship.

★4 STARS

Running into your significant ex can be awkward at the best of times, but when your ex is an NFL star TK Moore who happens upon you at your waitressing gig at a strip club; it’s safe to say the awkwardness goes off the Richter scale.

As shocked as Poppy Patterson is, she’s thrown by his excitement at seeing her. As far as she is concerned they ended acrimoniously, and after raising their son alone for the last nine years, the excitement is certainly not reciprocated.

She’s not the pregnant and heartbroken sixteen year old girl she once was. She’s strong, hardworking and an exemplary mother to her son, and because of that, she decides to give TK a second chance at being a dad.

My love for TK was instant, but his knee jerk reaction to Poppy’s news cast a temporary shadow on the affection I had for him. Once his shock passed my admiration was back with a vengeance as we saw him navigate fatherhood and make know his hope to start anew with Poppy.

After the success of INTERCEPTED it was a given that Alexa Martin would added to my roster of auto authors. I enjoyed the sense of fun and easy readability she offered, and the added bonus of it being a sport romance was more than I cared to resist.

I was sure I would be in safe hands when it came to her sophomore novel FUMBLED, and with second chance romance a particular favourite trope of mine, I was not surprised she once again scored a winning touchdown of a read.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ THE RISK BY ELLE KENNEDY

Genres: New Adult, Sports Romance

THE RISK by Elle Kennedy

Series: Briar U, #2

Genre: New Adult, Sports Romance

A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy. THE RISK takes you back to the world of hot hockey players, feisty heroines, bro banter, and steamy scenes…

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

★4 STARS★

As a staunch hockey lover and supporter of Briar U, Harvard hotshot Jake Connelly is public enemy number one where Brenna Jensen is concerned. If you’ve read The Chase you’ll remember we were teased by what was to come with their sharp back and forth. The teams are long-time rivals and with the amounting tension rising due to them being set to face off on the ice, it’s both a nuisance and inconvenience that circumstances have thrown them into a situation that requires them to enter a fake relationship.

Admittedly the nuisance and inconvenience is one sided as Jake loves nothing more than rubbing Brenna up the wrong way. She’s feisty and self-assured, and his attraction to her means he’s more than happy to be her fake boyfriend if it affords him the opportunity to get to know her better with one of his mandatory real dates.

The banter of was off the charts and I loved how these two bounced off one another. Combined with the fantastic secondary characters (shout out to Hollis & Rupi) who brought the laughs, The Risk has been my favourite outing with the series so far.

There were some serious moments when it came to Brenna’s ex and her strained relationship with her father, as well as dealing with gender equality in the world of sports broadcasting. I felt these added to the substance of the story and made for a well-rounded read.

The momentum to this series is well and truly picking up and I’m waiting with baited breathe for the puck to drop with the next instalment.

★NEW RELEASE & REVIEW★ OVERNIGHT SENSATION BY SARINA BOWEN

OVERNIGHT SENSATION by Sarina Bowen

Series: Brooklyn Bruisers

Genre: Sports Romance

Everyone knows the girl is off limits. But it’s so good to be bad.

There’s this girl…
Heidi and I have been trading hungry looks all year, and everything she does makes me smile. But I don’t do girlfriends, and I certainly can’t get involved with the league commissioner’s daughter. I need shots on goal, not a hookup and a widely misunderstood paparazzi photo.
Can I resist her, though? The way she teases me should be a game penalty for interference with my libido.

There’s this guy…
Jason wants me, but he won’t admit it. That man looks at me the way a hockey player eyes the lunch buffet after practice–and I love it.
But when victory is finally within my grasp, I blow it and humiliate myself. Even then I can’t even avoid him–as the team intern, I’m in constant view of his hard body and cocky smile.
I need another chance. Jason Castro is about to learn the true meaning of an overnight sensation.

★4 STARS

With a name like Heidi Jo you can almost picture her before you meet her. Bubbly rich girl, who calls her daddy “Daddy” and wants for nothing. On first impressions she fits the stereotype, and admittedly I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. I wouldn’t be only one guilty of making those assumptions of her as it seems members of the Brooklyn Bruisers also came to the same conclusion of her, but it’s nothing being in her company for few minutes didn’t fix.

It’s glaringly obvious how much of a hard worker Heidi is. Strong willed to the point of stubborn, she’s determined to be appointed the position of Office Manager for the team. Her father being the NHL commissioner does not believe it’s a suitable job for his Princess and goes out of his way to assign her roles he hopes will make her reconsider and return to her education.

Her days are long and hard, which is where Jason Castro enters the picture. Heidi has a shameless crush on Castro and none too wisely propositions him whilst under the influence of tequila. Given his dedication to single life and his attraction to Heidi a harmless hook-up looks likely, that is until the hook-up that never was appears to potentially harm his career.

The forbidden element to their friendship was both hilarious and sweet torment. They became a great little duo, intimate in all aspects of their lives but carnal. As the story developed so too did the depth of their affection for one another, and the weaknesses they kept well-hidden became the glue that cemented the transition from friendship to much more.

With a story that has been a long time coming, Castro is anything but an Overnight Sensation. He’s poetic and grounded, and humble in a manner of ways. I enjoyed getting to know him and loved what he brought on and off the ice.

Along with the well-loved members of the team I found it hard to fault any of the characters.  The Brooklyn Bruisers series is one that delivers time and time again. I’m hoping Silas’ book is up next up for the Sarina Bowen treatment.

★BLOG TOUR, EXCERPT & REVIEW★ JOCK ROW BY SARA NEY

Genres: New Adult, Sports Romance

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | Amazon CA | Amazon AU |

JOCK ROW by Sara Ney

Release Day: 3rd May 2018

Scarlett is always the sensible one: The sober driver. The planner. The one holding your hair back while you’re worshiping the porcelain gods.

Week-after-week, she visits Jock Row with her friends—the universities hottest party scene and breeding ground for student athletes. And if keeping her friends out of trouble, and guys out of their pants, was a sport, she’d be the star athlete.

Being a well known jock-blocker gets her noticed for all the wrong reasons; just like that, she’s banned from Jock Row. NO GUY WANTS A GIRL AROUND WHO KEEPS THEIR JOCK FRIENDS FROM GETTING LAID.

“Rowdy” Wade is the hot shot short-stop for the university’s baseball team—and the unlucky bastard who drew the short straw: keep little Miss Goody Two-Shoes out of the Baseball House.

But week-after-week Scarlett returns, determined to get inside.

Jesus Christ, she has a dimple in her damn cheek.

I’m a sucker for those.

She shoots me a tentative smile, ass parked on the stoop, back propped against the wooden siding of the house.

It’s obvious that she’s blushing by the way she ducks her head, glancing down at the floor, the soft glow from the two busted lamps illuminate the crown of her head.

The porch lights are busted and rusty, needing their bulbs changed, one flickering—the other just about to burn out. It makes the entire place look like a goddamn Halloween fun-house, casting a weird glow on the girl’s smooth, pale skin.

And her pretty dimple.

Stop staring at it, dipshit.

I cast my glance at her outfit, doing my best to analyze her under the dim lights; she must have been sweaty inside the house; I got a good look at her before convincing her to follow me, but still study her as if seeing her for the first time.

Both of her boots are tucked under her legs, and she sits, cross-legged on the ground. Blows out a frustrated puff of air that translates into a billowing stream of steam.

“So.” She wraps her puffed sleeved arms around her knees, hugging them tight. Shivers. “Now what?”

Her prim ponytail is jaunty, bobbing when she tilts her head to gaze over at me.

“Now I babysit you.”

“Lovely. We can bond.”

I position my large body against the railing, giving it a gentle shake to make sure it’s sturdy before supporting all my weight on it. It’s solid and secure and is going to get real uncomfortable real fucking fast if I have to stand here all night.

The girl raises her brows at me. They appear black in this light; full and arched expertly. “Have you babysat anyone before?”

“No one I managed to keep alive,” I joke. “A few cousins my parents forced me to watch a few times; never would feed them but would occasionally throw out a dog bone so they wouldn’t get hungry.”

She smiles, dimple denting the smooth right side of her face. “Is that what you have planned for me?”

I raise my empty hands. “I’m fresh out of Scooby snacks. Guess we’ll both have to starve.”

“Sorry you have to sit out here.”

“Really?” I sound hopeful. “No one is forcing you to sit out here.”

Her light laugh is quiet. “Fine. I guess I’m not that sorry.” She bites down on her lower lip. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying your discomfort—just a little bit.”

“Gee, thanks.”

★4 STARS★

I am in a committed relationship with Sara Ney’s brand of sports romance. I mean, what’s not to love? Just like a titillating love interest I’m reduced to a giggling mess by the funny, sexy, addictive nature of it all.

Take “Rowdy” Wade for example; he’s unluckily drawn the short straw that is keeping straight laced “Sober Scarlett” from killing the vibe at any more of the infamous Jock Row parties. Far too sensible, she easily cuts through the bull spewed to save her friends from their future mistakes. The mistakes being Rowdy’s teammates.

As far as Scarlett is concerned she’s doing a her friends a solid, disgruntled jocks be damned. How they can be enamoured by the cheap gimmicks of the baseball players she’ll never know. She’s merely doing a service, so Rowdy Wade and his perfect face can think if they think they can stand in her way.

Every Friday night begins with the same impasse. Scarlett attempts to enter and Rowdy stops her. They’re having more fun than requires admission but the one thing they can’t deny is their flagrant attraction to one another.

It’s almost a book of two halves, what happens before they get together and what happens after. If I’m honest I still can’t decide which part I enjoyed more. I was hooked on the easy banter that flowed between them but it was the anticipation of the huge crescendo that really reeled me in.

With only a blooper here and there Jock Row is ‘the best bits’ of any sports romance story.

Published by Pocket Star

UNDONE BY YOU (Chicago Rebels, #3) by Kate Meader

Release Day: 5th March 2018

Genre: MM / Sports Romance

USA TODAY bestselling author Kate Meader brings her signature “steamy sex scenes, colorful characters, and riveting dialogue” (RT Book Reviews) to this novella in the Chicago Rebels series, following the general manager of the Rebels as he scores with one of his players off the ice.

Dante Moretti has just landed his dream job: GM of the Chicago Rebels. And screw the haters who think there should be an asterisk next to his name because he’s the first out managing executive in pro hockey. He’s earned the right to be here and nothing will topple him off that perch—especially not an incredibly inconvenient attraction to his star defenseman, Cade “Alamo” Burnett. Cade has always been careful to keep his own desires on the down low, but his hot Italian boss proves to be a temptation he can’t resist. Sure, they both have so much to lose, but no one will ever know…

As Dante and Cade’s taboo affair heats up off the ice and their relationship gets more and more intense, they’ll have to decide: is love worth risking their careers? Or is this romance destined to be forever benched?

Note: this is a long-ish novella of approximately 40,000 words set in the Chicago Rebels world.

★4 STARS

It’s no mean feat being an openly gay general manager in a sport like ice hockey, but Dante Moretti isn’t about to let that impede on finally achieving his dream. That said he isn’t about to rock the boat either, so his crush on defenseman Cade Burnett is one his needs to bury, stat.

Cade on the other hand has no problems in letting Dante know he is interested. More than physical attraction he is impressed by his achievements and feels he can learn a lot from Dante.

There’s more to this story than a taboo boss/employer storyline. The friendship and family dynamic really adds meat to this novella, and the steam was balanced with heartfelt substance that I was a big fan off.

As a first time reader of Kate Meader it’s easy to see why this series is popular with other readers. I can easily see myself jumping into her backlist and acquainting myself with the rest of her Rebel rabble.

THERE ARE NO DOUCHEBAGS IN THIS STORY.

Well, there are, but they’re not who this story is about.

This story is about me—the coach’s daughter.

When I moved to Iowa to live with my dad, the university’s take-no-prisoners wrestling coach, I thought transferring would be easy as pie—living with my father would be temporary, and he’d make sure his douchebag wrestlers left me alone.

Wrong on both counts.

ASSHOLES ALWAYS COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH.

A bet is placed, and I’m on the table. After one humiliating night and too much alcohol, I find the last nice guy on campus. And when he offers to rent me his spare bedroom, I go all in. It’s time for the nice guy to finish first.
